Many of us are trying to stay fitter and healthier, be more environmentally friendly and eat more fresh and organic food but most haven’t considered the toxins getting into our system from other sources. Every day we are exposed to thousands of manmade, potentially harmful chemicals through our own doing – via cosmetics, toiletries and cleaning products.
This especially applies to women who account for the majority of the incredible 6.4 billion pounds a year spent on beauty, skin and hair care products.
In a new documentary to be aired on 11th October, Sarah Beeny investigates exactly what our much-loved products (even those that are often falsely marketed as ‘natural’, ‘organic’ or ‘pure’) actually contain and their potentially harmful effects.
With the help of experts, two beauty product addicts were tested to find the levels of toxic chemicals in their system. Their regular products were then taken away and they were given natural versions to use instead. After just 8 days on the natural regime they were then tested to see how the toxin levels in their body had changed.
Chemicals investigated include parabens, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulphate, aluminium and phthalates which are all commonly found ingredients in our bathroom cabinets.
